Narcotic Detection and Patrol Dog Sales

We recommend that the canine be trained with the department’s handler so that they can develop as a team. The advantage to this method is the handler learns how to direct and read his canine, and the canine learns how to respond to the handler, thus eliminating many problems in advance.

Washington K 9 Inc.  and Jim Beernink

For the past nineteen years I have been involved with the instruction of law enforcement and privately owned canines and their handlers as well as  working detection dogs in the private sector on a daily basis. My background is based on the initial training I received in Canada, with the Vancouver (BC) Dog Squad and then specialized training with Coquitlam (BC) RCMP, as a dual-purpose patrol dog handler. This included handling  dogs from pre-training through all phases of police service work until my retirement. During this time we began training narcotic detection dogs, patrol/ tracking dogs for other agencies and now do it commercially. We can select for you a green or trained dog and offer instruction and additional training.

In 2003 I was hired to come to South Carolina and conduct detection services in SC, NC and GA  for a private company inspecting public schools.

I have been training for the public since 1998 offering obedience, tracking, searching (human and articles), protection, criminal apprehension and narcotics detection. We are now also assisting with certified therapy dogs locally.

Washington K 9 features Belgian Malinois (Fontaine d’Or and Midwest Malinois) and Rottweiler lines that are proven on the field/street and are additionally worked daily doing detection work for a minimum of 3 years prior to breeding.

                                                                 Types of dogs we recommend.

The Belgian Malinois has an ancestry, which is common to many of the herding dogs used throughout the modern world. The Belgian Malinois is bright, strong, and agile dog. The Belgian Malinois has been widely used for police and war work and is noted for his intelligence and alertness in obedience work.

The different coat colors, textures, and lengths have become the distinguishing characteristics. The long-haired Groenendael and Tervuren, the short-haired Malinois, and the rough-haired variety Laekenoi differ in coat color, length and texture but are unmistakably the same breed.

The Labrador Retriever is a strong built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced confirmation. The Labrador Retriever is gentle with children, has a stable temperament and adapts to new surroundings easily. The Labrador retriever is not an aggressive dog, but will bark to ward off strangers.

The German Shepherd Dog "working lines" is a more commonly used breed for detection/patrol due to its versitility. We do however, occasionally acquire a good one.
